Speaker 1: Today, on this 2016 Honda Pilot, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Aries AeroTread Running Boards with Custom Installation Kit. Part number AA2051029. Here's what our running boards look like installed. Now, the reason you're going to want a set of running boards for your vehicle is not only do they add a stylish look to it, but they also make it a lot easier for you to get in and out of it as well.These run the full length of your passenger compartment, so it makes it easy for your back seat passengers to get in too. We have this nice plastic step surface, which is 5" deep from the very back of it to the very front of it, which makes a wide path for your foot to make contact with. So you don't have to worry about slipping and falling as you're getting in and out of the vehicle.
The outer construction is a polished stainless steel, which gives us a nice look. The inner construction is a lightweight aluminum, so it's very strong and rust resistant.One unique feature about these running boards, which I personally haven't seen in others, is that there is a weather strip seal that goes between the running board itself and the body of the vehicle. This will help keep out any mud, dirt, or snow from getting trapped in between the running board and the body of your vehicle, which could cause rust over the course of time. These running boards feature a 500 pound capacity, so they offer more than enough weight capacity for anybody to get in and out of your vehicle.The mounting brackets that come with your running boards are specific to your vehicle. They are an easy no-drill application that'll simply bolt to the existing holes already in your vehicle.
Also, they are constructed of a powder-coated carbon steel, so they're extremely rust-resistant and very strong. Now, if you aren't a fan of the polished stainless steel look, that's not a problem. We do offer these with a matte black finish as well.To begin our install, we're going to be working on our rocker panel. We'll be on the driver's side, the passenger side will be the exact same way. Okay, we're underneath the vehicle now, looking at the inside and to the rocker panel.
We're looking at the rear mounting location right now. We'll have two well nuts, one that goes in horizontally, and one that goes in vertically. This is where our installation hardware will go. We'll have a metric bolt with a lock washer on it and a flat washer. All of the mounting hardware is exactly the same, so just keep that in mind.
Take the bracket, and see how it's going to line up with those holes with the shape that it has, and we'll just loosely thread in both of our bolts. This way, we can adjust it later.Okay, perfect. Now, just forward of the rear one, we'll have our middle one. This one is a little bit different. We have a vertical bolt, and then one that comes in at about a 45 degree angle. Now, at the very front, we'll have two well nuts that are vertical. So we'll use this bracket here and we'll get our bolts started. Okay, with all three of our brackets now loosely started, we can set our running board on top of it.We're looking at the bottom of our running board right now. Notice our bolts are pre-installed in these channels. All we'll have to do is slide them near our brackets so they'll line up. Once we have it lined up, we can take our running board and we'll slide it onto the brackets with the bolts going through the brackets. Now, you can see how our brackets have these slots, so it does make it a little easier, especially on the inner one. You can just kind of slide it through the slot like that, and drop your outer one through the hole.Okay, with our bolts poking through our brackets now, place on a flat washer, a lock washer, then we'll thread on a nut. Again, we don't need to have these tight for the time being. Just loose enough so we can maneuver the running board around as necessary. We want to make sure we do this at all locations. Now, using a 13mm socket, we can begin the process of tightening down our hardware. We'll begin with the bolts that secure the brackets to the body of the vehicle first. Now, we're going to go ahead and ensure that our running board is centered on the vehicle. You can either move it side-to-side, you can because of the slots where the bolts go through in the board, and if you need to pull in or out, you can because the brackets are slotted. We have it where we need it right now, so we can tighten our hardware.Now, we'll just make sure everything is nice and snug. With our driver's side now installed, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the passenger's side. That'll complete our look at and show you how to install the Aries AeroTread Running Boards with Custom Installation Kit, part number AA2051029, on this 2016 Honda Pilot.

I did not even wanted to open the other running board.
Again, etrailer.com knocks it out of the park! Other than one pain in the butt issue, this was perfect. The running boards are much higher quality than I thought they would be, solidly built and look awesome on my 2019 Honda Pilot.
Installation was easy - after I watched the installation video. However, the brackets marked "F", which I assumed meant "Front" like over reviewers, was actually the rear and the brackets marked "R" were actually the front. Brackets marked "M" were for the middle. Fortunately, I figured this was the case after reading other reviews. But, with my vehicle, it was really obvious when I looked at the mounting holes. The entire installation took about 40 minutes (plus an hour and a half to go to Home Depot, but I'll get to that).
The running boards look awesome on my vehicle! They look factory installed. I like that they have a thick rubber strip that seals them again the vehicle, preventing rain, snow, ice from getting in between the running boards and the side of the vehicle.
This is the first time I've ever had something go wrong with a product I ordered from etrailer, though. One of the mounting bolts was defective -- see the picture I posted. This is absolutely not etrailer's fault and is on the manufacturer, but it was a major hassle for me as I didn't notice until I had the driver's side running board installed and had one of the brackets already installed on the passenger side. It is a fairly standard sized metric bolt and I spent $0.92 at Home Depot for a replacement -- but, it was still a major hassle. If it weren't for that, I'd rate this 5 stars.
Suggestions -- use a round wire brush to clean out the weld nuts before attaching the brackets. A couple of mine were full of dirt, which I expected and I cleaned them out first. Second, check the bolts!! My defective bolt was probably a fluke, but checking all the parts would be a good idea anyway.

Decided we needed running boards because I am short. I struggled finding something I liked with a reasonable price. I saw these and was a little unsure but they had good reviews so I thought I'd give them a shot... so worth it. They were literally delivered the very next day. My husband installed them today and said our 12 year old daughter really could have done it. Best part is I can now get into the pilot without any issues.

Still loving it!
Super easy install on our ‘21 Pilot Black Edition, didn’t even need to trim out the plastic tabs that the OEM boards would have needed. Even easier if you have a second person to help you straighten the mounting brackets and thread the hardware while you ratchet, but that’s just icing on the cake.
These were easy to install and they look great. Just got the 2019 Pilot and found out the kids would have an easier time with some running boards. Instructions were straightforward enough, but I watched the installation example video anyway. Just as easy as it looks. The quality and construction seems to be very good. Hoping they last the life of the vehicle. Kids, and wife, like the ease of getting in and out of the Pilot now.

Fit was great, installation is straight forward. I just had one of the bolts came damaged and had to source for a different one. Also, the brackets were labeled wrong, the front bracket is actually the rear bracket.
Installation was relatively easy once I figured out that the front and rear brackets were mislabeled. The brackets labeled DSF (PSF) were actually the rear brackets and DSR (PSR) were the front brackets. The brackets matched up with the threaded bolt holes in the vehicle, there were no problems with alignment. Instructions were clear and easily followed.
Product surprisingly arrived 2 days early. It was well packaged and I installed the running boards in under 2 hours. Watching the installation video from etrailer was super helpful. Will definitely order from etrailer again, they are my go-to company
These running boards are very sturdy and look great on our Pilot. Install was a breeze thanks to the quick video I watched. The black finish was exactly what I was looking for to compliment my black car. Very happy with this purchase!

One year ago I purchased these running boards to be installed on my 2022 KIA Sportage. I was having trouble getting in and out of my SUV when my sciatica nerve was acting up. These running boards not only put more style on my vehicle, they are a blessing that I can get in and out of my vehicle when I am unable to twist and turn. If I didn't purchase these step boards, I would have had to trade my SUV in for a car that I would have been able to get in and out of. I definitely recommend these running boards for several reasons and as I use them everyday after 1 year, they still look as new as they did a year ago when I had them installed.
Boards look great, and the installation was fairly easy. 1st side took me about an hour and second side was on in 30 minutes.
Followed etrailer video to install. Installation was easy. I did it on a cold day so it took longer than expected but overall, satisfied with the product.

The running boards bolted right up to the vehicle with no problem. They seem to be sturdy and are tucked in as to not protrude past the body.

I have instructions that are to follow, but these are terrible. You must think that the average person will know how to use the pull through nut. Your instructions tell you where to it and that is all. And what does it mean to put M 10 bolt plate in the rear mounting hole. Please show these instruction to someone who has never put these running boards on and ask what he thinks It would be easier to drill holes

Boards look great and appear very sturdy. I installed with no elevation of vehicle in 2 hours 5 minutes which included removing the passenger board for the correct one. It wasn't yet tightened so not too hard. Instructions are ok and provide basic info but I learned more in the comment section here. The brackets are not labeled correctly and face one way on the passenger side and the opposite on the driver side. Don't worry, it all works. The instructions did clarify that forked brackets go to the front and that all others worked middle and rear regardless of stamped markings. Very little room to work under car but I managed. Boards look durable and are very good looking. Mount is sturdy but it would help if boards were marked for Passenger/ driver. I saw the tread pointing toward the front in a picture and so I removed first board and swapped. Screws don't move as freely in the tracks but sufficiently so. All in all, I would buy them again and do it again. Not sure if they are lined up right but an easy fix if they need to move a little forward or back; for now they are centered.
It really helps my wife get into the vehicle. I use it too but not as much since I have longer legs.
